Fun Ways To Keep the Family Active This Summer

Fun Ways To Keep the Family Active This Summer

A Family That Moves Together, Stays Together

Safe exercise is essential for a child’s healthy development, and not every child hits their targets. Unfortunately, 76% of children in the US don’t receive the recommended amount of daily exercise. Part of the reason is that it simply isn’t fun. Luckily, that doesn’t have to be the case.

With the right tips, you and your children can enjoy some fun family activities and stay in shape all summer long. Let’s talk about some fun activities to enjoy this summer to promote a safe and active family lifestyle!

1. Play Sports

Visit Mill Creek Sports Park for family fun from 7 am to 9 pm throughout the summer months. There are fields for nearly every activity, including softball and soccer, so grab a ball, pack a healthy lunch, and enjoy the day!

2. Mill Creek Skate Park

Of course, you’ll need some elbow and knee pads, along with a helmet, but this is a great place to practice some cool moves on your scooter, bike, or skateboard. This is something your older kids are sure to enjoy, but make sure to go over safety rules ahead of time!

3. SafeSplash Swim School

Another hidden gem in Mill Creek is this swim school on Main Street. It’s a great place for children to learn and practice swimming while escaping the burning heat of the summer sun.

If your children are part fish, then take them here or to any community pools or beaches in the area. Swimming is one of the best full-body exercises for developing children with low risk of excessive strain injuries.

Also, swimming combines both aerobic cardiovascular exercise and safe strength training. The CDC recommends children above 6 receive one hour of aerobic exercise each day, so have some fun with it and cool off in the water!

4. Nature Trails

One of the best parts about living in the Pacific Northwest is the easy access to nature trails. Take your kids over to North Creek trail or drive outside of town to any of the hundreds of nearby hiking trails. There are many kid-friendly options to choose from, and a nice walk through nature is excellent for our physical and mental health.

5. Rock Climbing

There are several indoor rock climbing gyms around Mill Creek, including Summit Everest and Vertical World. For children 5 and up, rock climbing can be a great way to build full-body strength and coordination in a safe and controlled environment. It could also help prevent them from developing a fear of heights (or help you conquer yours)!

Enjoy Your Active Family Activities

Now that you have some ideas to help you get started, start enjoying the active family lifestyle this summer and make the most out of every warm, sunny day! Your kids don’t stay kids for too long, so enjoy the family fun while it lasts!

Why Golfers Love Chiropractic

Why Golfers Love Chiropractic

Why Golfers Love Chiropractic

Are you a golfer who’s feeling some of the aches and pains that are so common amongst lovers of the sport

Golf is a lot of fun. It’s a great way to socialize and get some much-needed exercise for people of all ages. No one can deny that it’s a healthy practice.

That said, there’s a reason why golfers love chiropractic care. There are several common golf injuries in chiropractic offices, and luckily, professionals are able to handle them.

Not convinced that it’s time to see a chiropractor? No problem; we’re here to explain. Keep reading to learn why golf and chiropractic care go together so well.

It Can Improve Flexibility

Did you know that all good golfers should have a solid baseline of flexibility?

No one expects you to be a yoga master or gymnast, but having a somewhat flexible body will help your swing and your overall performance.

If you go to a chiropractor for preventative care, they can use a deep tissue massage and adjustment techniques to reduce stiffness in your spine and thus increase your flexibility.

Not only will this improve your golf game, but it will also help you prevent spinal injuries in the future.

It Can Improve Posture

How is your posture?

Anyone who works at a desk all day likely has inadequate posture. Poor posture can lead to several health problems in the future, but it can also affect your golf game!

Many golfers don’t pay enough attention to their posture while they’re golfing. While it’s true that the average golfing stance is a bit bent over, if you don’t do it right, you could be setting yourself up for poor swings and a back injury.

When you go to a chiropractor, they can help you learn how to hold your body while you’re golfing. They can also use deep tissue massage to loosen up your back and reduce posture problems.

It Can Help Heal Injuries

While we don’t often think of golf as a dangerous sport, golfers can experience serious injuries

One of the biggest risks for golfers is back and neck pain. While you can avoid these problems if you see a chiropractor often, they can also make adjustments after you’re already injured.

You can also take advantage of saunas to relax some of your tense and sore muscles.

One of the best things about chiropractic for golf injuries is that it’s non-invasive and it doesn’t require the use of medication. With a few adjustment sessions and some rest, you can get back to the green.

Do You Love Chiropractic Care Yet?

Take it from golfers who already love chiropractic care: it helps. While you can relieve pain and heal injuries with an experienced chiropractor, you can also avoid those aches and pains in the first place.

Before you start seeking pain medication or surgical options, visit a chiropractor to see what they can do for you.

The Proven Benefits of Chiropractic Care After Pregnancy

The Proven Benefits of Chiropractic Care After Pregnancy

The Proven Benefits of Chiropractic Care After Pregnancy

Did you know that chiropractic care was established in 1895 by Daniel David Palmer? Did you just have your baby, and you’re wondering if you should see a chiropractor or not?

Explore the many benefits of chiropractic care after pregnancy, and why so many choose it. Read on to explore all of these benefits, and find out why you can feel better in no time!

Chiropractic Treatment After Pregnancy

Whether you’re seeing a chiropractor before, during, or after pregnancy, it has numerous benefits. Chiropractic care will help to make sure your pelvic area is in proper alignment. This is also beneficial during pregnancy as well.

Back Pain Relief

If you’re experiencing lower back pain, chiropractic care can help with this. Your chiropractor will fix any misalignments that are contributing to your low back pain.

Normal Biomechanics

As your baby grows, you gain weight as well. This extra weight will cause pressure in different parts of your body.

You might notice that your posture overall is different during and after pregnancy. If you let it go, this can cause other problems for you.

Sciatica Treatment

You might notice your spine having problems causing radiating pain down one leg which is known as sciatica. This is when your nerves compress in the lower spine. Common symptoms you might experience include a tingling and numbing sensation.

Pain Relief

You might notice pain in your shoulder blades and neck over time. This can lead to headaches. A chiropractor can help to relieve any elbow pain, sciatica, or wrist pain you’re experiencing.

Harmful Movements

After having a baby, you’ll be doing different movements that are harmful to your body such as rocking your baby to sleep, breastfeeding, and carrying car seats. This can all cause changes and pain to your mid-back. You’ll learn stretches and different movements that will help you alleviate any pain you’re experiencing.

Evaluate Joint Movement

Your chiropractor can take an in-depth look at your joints, and evaluate the pain you’re experiencing. They can tell whether you’re not moving enough, or overdoing it. They can then make any adjustments necessary.

At Home Backcare Relief

Before heading in to see your chiropractor, there are a few home methods you can try. You might notice that your back pain will last for a few months after pregnancy and delivery.

First, try out different gentle exercises. Even if it’s just walking, that can help with some pain relief. Take it easy when you first begin and receive the clear from your doctor.

Immune System Detox Boosters You’ll Want to Try Today

Immune System Detox Boosters You’ll Want to Try Today

Immune System Detox Boosters You’ll Want to Try Today

A 2016 survey in the US found that 3% of Americans have either a weakened, suppressed, or compromised immune system. Some researchers even believe that the numbers are rising, thanks in large part to medical advances that allow immuno-compromised individuals to live longer.

That percentage may not sound like a lot—but when you consider that you or your loved ones could fall into that category, the stakes become higher.

Are you considering ways to support and strengthen your immune system? If so, you’ve come to the right place.

Here, we list a handful of activities that help boost your immunity. Keep reading!

1. Physical Activity

You might be wondering, Does physical activity boost the immune system? It does, and in fact, it may be one of the most natural ways to boost your immunity!

In short, regular exercise can:

  • Improve your mental health (not exactly immunity-related, but a great bonus)
  • Lower your risk of illness
  • Increase the circulation of immune cells
  • Improve your immune response
  • Reduce harmful inflammation

Experts recommend an aerobic activity that lasts less than an hour, done regularly throughout the week (without overdoing it). This includes everything from walking to running, attending a spin class, or using the elliptical.

2. Quitting Bad Habits

This may not seem like an “activity,” but you can make it one! Record your highs and lows, progress and setbacks in a journal or with friends to make it more fun—and to hold yourself accountable.

Some habits to consider kicking include:

  • Smoking cigarettes
  • Excessive use of alcohol
  • Lack of sleep (more on that later)
  • A poor diet

3. Getting Adequate Sleep

Resting is an activity—and let’s admit, it’s a fulfilling one!

Not getting adequate sleep is detrimental to your immune system. On the flip side, getting good sleep fosters it.

When you sleep, your body creates cytokines, which are proteins that target infection and inflammation. The fewer sleep you get, the fewer cytokines your body produces. Not only does rest produce these proteins, but it releases them, too.

Sound sleep: it’s a win-win!

4. Visiting the Sauna

The health benefits of sauna-going are enticing!

The heat from saunas can reduce inflammation, improve your immune response, and reduce harmful physical stress, which takes its own toll on the body’s immune response.

If you’re looking for ways to improve your immune function, use your local sauna for about 15 to 20 minutes tops (to avoid dehydration).

5. Checking in With Your Chiropractor

The best chiropractor will support you in your entirety—beyond the mechanics of your spine. In addition to this, chiropractors emphasize your body healing itself without the use of prescription drugs and/or surgery.

The relationship between your body’s structure and its function is undeniable, and it’s something that’s significantly studied in the chiropractic world. The bond between these two things promotes the preservation and restoration of health, as well as the body’s natural recuperative power.

So, it might be time to visit your local chiropractor and see what they have to say about your nervous system, general physical health, and stress and anxiety levels.

Don’t Wait to Boost Your Immune System

If you’ve noticed one thing about these activities, it’s probably that they’re actionable on a daily basis. Additionally, they’re relatively simple to incorporate into your day-to-day.

Your immune system greatly depends on your efforts—your good habits, your sleeping patterns, your exercise levels, and more. If you can practice these activities regularly, you’ll be glad you did.

At Amazing Life Chiropractic & Wellness, we strive to make you feel better, and we’re not just talking about your spinal health! We take a well-rounded approach that observes everything from your physical activity to your body’s general well-being.
