Tips to Sleep Better!

Sleep! We did a previous blog on REM Cycles. Now let’s talk about sleeping habits! Do you wake up feeling unrested, sore, and frustrated? Are you constantly yawning through out the day anticipating the time you can go to bed? You may have be having troubles sleeping due to bad sleeping habits. Have no fear, Dr. Gabrielle Soucy, D.C. explains what you can do to help improve your sleep!

Often times, people are not getting rest due to bad sleeping posture. For optimal sleep, Dr. Gabby advises to lay with a pillow under your legs, or on your side with a pillow in between your legs. Also, neck positioning while sleeping has a big effect on how much rest you are getting. Always have your eyes and your chin on a horizontal plane. If you are sleeping on your side, always have a pillow that’s as thick as your ear to your shoulder. These are some simple ways you can use to improve your sleep! If you have anymore questions feel free to reach out to us!

Let’s Talk About REM Cycles

Let’s Talk About REM Cycles

Let’s Talk About REM Cycles!

We created a blog about how many hours of sleep we should get, but what about REM Cycles! We have all heard of the “rules” regarding how many hours of sleep we should get. But what if they key is planning your sleep around REM cycles?

A full REM Cycle takes 90 minutes. Instead of sleeping the suggested 8 hours that we so often hear, why not sleep 7.5 to 9 hours so your sleep is not disturbed? REM Sleep occurs in three cycles. The first cycle is when your eyes are closed, however, it is easy to wake you up. The second cycle is light sleep, where your body is preparing itself for the third cycle of sleep. The third and last cycle, is the deepest cycle; where your body is in the heaviest state of sleep. This stage is important because  your body is healing and repairing itself.

Most people don’t understand the importance of REM sleep. Rather than planning to sleep a certain number of hours, Dr. Sergey Kochelayev suggest you plan the hours off how many cycles you will be able to reach. A good number is 7.5 hours and 9 hours.

How Many Hours of Sleep?

How Many Hours of Sleep?

How Much Sleep Do You Actually Need?

How much sleep do you actually need? You may have heard various different answers. Many say 6-8 hours. Others say 9 hours, and there are people who also believe in getting more than 10 hours a night. What if the answer is not necessarily what you think it is?

In this video, Dr. Sergey Kochelayev talks about how sleep effects people differently and what you need to focus on when determining how many hours you need. Athletes, for an example, can operate of 5-6 hours a night. This differs for people who work a 9-5 job, have terrible diets, and are sitting in traffic for most of the day. These people need to get more sleep because their bodies need the recovery.

Another thing to consider is the how your sleep adds up. When you are lacking a consistent schedule, your body is always in a deficit as the week progresses. Many people think they can counteract this by getting taking one day to sleep extra; this however often leads people back to the same cycle of being in a deficit because they think they are caught up! Dr. Sergey advises on choosing schedule and sticking to it!

3 Foods You Want to Avoid

3 Foods You Want to Avoid

3 Foods You Should Avoid for a Healthier Life!

We have heard of the white death; the 3 white foods that we should all stay away from. SALT, SUGAR, and WHITE FLOUR. In this video, Dr. Sergey talks about the 21st century White Deaths.

What Are They?

The 3 foods you need to avoid are gluten, dairy, and soy. These foods give people a lot of grief and discomfort and health experts recommend avoiding these foods all together. First, let’s start with gluten! As time progresses, we notice an increase of gluten and yeast sensitivity and as a result gluten is a food that can be avoided by all. Next on the list is dairy because it can be argued that it is unnatural for human consumption. As Dr. Sergey states in the video, “milk from a cow is supposed to turn a calf into a 400-500 pound cow”. Similarly to dairy, the next food we have soy. Soy is problematic because of the way it is processed and how we consume it.  Soy also has a lot of isoflavones and estrogen in it and it has been proven to be unhealthy in large quantities.

In conclusion, if you want to live a healthier life, avoid these 3 foods known as the White Death and find alternatives!

Story Time! Let’s Talk About Babies and Poop

It’s a common misconception that it’s fine for babies to go days without pooping. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Would you like it if you didn’t poop for a few days? Babies feel the same. Dr. Gabby Soucy from the Amazing Life Chiropractic and Wellness tells us a story about a time she administered gentle chiropractic adjustments to a constipated baby. Let’s just say it was a messy situation, however, the parents were so happy and the baby felt so much better because it finally pooped. If your baby or babies you know are having trouble pooping, feel free to reach out to us. By applying gentle adjustments to the lower back, we can stimulate the nerves to the colon which in turn can help your baby poop!
